Carom might be the most elitist discipline of billiard. The level of technical skills it requires to master ball positioning, spin and all the other aspects of this sport leaves no room for luck.
To improve at the game, the quality of the equipment you play with is key to achieve consistent and advanced shots. But that’s not all.
In this second of 3 episodes, multiple World Champion and recent World Games Gold Medalist Therèse Klompenhouwer shares her tips on how to be good at the game.
Be committed
“If I look at myself, it’s the discipline. Because when you want to be at the top, you also need to let go things. So you have to change your life a little bit, like eat healthy, go to bed early, and don’t go to every party. You miss out on some things, but that’s okay. That’s what it takes. And the discipline too, even if you don’t really feel like it, just go train for 2 hours or 3 hours, maybe half an hour can be enough. And make many hours at a table and also watch a lot of videos because even when you are at the top, you can still learn a lot in billiards.”
Use the right equipment
“That’s really important because as players, if you are professional or amateur, you want to have the best material with the highest quality and the most accurate and the most reliable. So yes, it’s really important to play our game and to improve our game. And that’s why we need the most consistent material.”
